Just a quick update to let everyone know that I have picked up the campervan. I'm in the process of doing some work on it to get it ready for the trip. So far this has consisted of adding more power points, USB charging ports, 12V outlets, a second "house" battery" and an inverter. It's all pretty high-tech in the back now. I have also added some additional speakers to the stereo.
I'll also be making some structural changes to accomodate a permanent bed, as opposed to one that needs to be constructed from the table each night.
I'm also getting a UHF radio fitted later this week.
So once I get my ulcerative colitus under control (TMI?) I should be able to hit the road.
P.S. This is also the first test of several auto-post recipes I'm testing from IFTTT. So hopefully by posting a blog entry it also creates Facebook and Twitter entries.
There may be a slight delay to the start of my road trip due to health problems. However in the meantime, I'll keep posting photos from around Melbourne. Today's come from the State Library - La Trobe Reading Room...
I'm getting a bit behind with my blog and photo postings. About a month ago I went to Healesville Sanctuary and took a few more photos. My favourite animal of the day would have to be the Tassie Devils. Most of the time the keepers are very hands-off with the Devils, in the event that they are released back into the wild (Healesville has a breeding program to try to offset the damage being done in the wild by the facial tumor that is affecting a large proportion of the population). Howevever the keeper has been more "hands-on" with a couple of the Devils, and they were on display that day. They absoultely adore the keeper and one of them went to sleep in her lap. There are a few more shots of the Spirits of the Sky birds, although one of my favourite bird shots from this trip was of a small finch (see below).
Other shots from the day are available in the following Flickr Set
Stay tuned, as there are more photos to come from a recent test trip of the van, including some great shots from Wilsons Promontory.
Ok, so I haven't really started my road trip yet. But I have put a deposit down on the campervan and should be able to pick it up next Thursday. In the meantime..... there's always time for another trip to the Zoo.
This time, the main stars were the baby Meerkats. However we unexpectedly also ran across a wedding.
Last week I spoke to Traveller's AutoBahn and they have used campervans for sale. So I thought I'd hire one and give it a go for a few days. I'm currently in Anglesea giving it a whirl. So far so good... The van runs well, is easy to drive, and has all the creature comforts I need (although a bigger fridge may be nice).
Tonight will be my first night sleeping in the van - wish me luck. I've taken a few photos and posted to my Flickr account. Here's one...
Ok, so it's only 800m from my house, I haven't bought my camper yet, and technically I haven't started my road trip... But I thought I'd post some photos from my iPhone to test the Squarespace app.
Well, today is my last day at CGU. The plan is to starting test driving some second hand campervans next week (or the week after), that I've got my eye on. As soon as I've purchased one, I'll paste a photo, and let people know when I'm hitting the road.
